The Rainbow project

coffee morning

We promote quality of life and independence by helping with healthy living and encouraging residents to be active in their scheme. Collaborative work on health has resulted in a nurse providing regular health clinics within the schemes and advice on falls. Dental screening and presentations from the Patient Advisory Service have also been provided and improved links have been made between the local hospital and staff working on site.

Other initiatives and link work via the NHS have also helped in preventing avoidable hospital admissions.

The Rainbow Project is a partnership between three housing associations, Age Concern, the Supporting People Team and Social Services Department of Waltham Forest Council. The housing associations are L&Q, Waltham Forest Housing Association and Ujima.

The work we do with other agencies has brought new initiatives into our sheltered schemes. Things like Tai Chi sessions, exercise classes, computer/internet sessions, advocacy, holidays and activity groups have all proved extremely popular.

These have all been made available to residents throughout eight sheltered schemes as a direct result of The Rainbow Project.
