1. Keep the layout simple.
2. Your CV should be no longer than two sides of A4.
3. Write a person profile near the beginning. This gives a summary of your skills and gives an employer a quick impression of you.
4. Include a short list of your key skills. Use this to gain the employer's interest.
5. Be positive, direct and keep it to the point.
6. Don't lie about your skills or experience; an interviewer may find you out, or you may lose your job if you gain it on the strength of skills you don't have.
7. Use a spell check, or get someone to check your spelling.
8. Get your friends, family or careers advisor to read through your CV. If it is not obvious what you are trying to say to them, it will not be obvious to an employer.
