L&Q has linked up with local community development charity Seedtime Projects to provide a youth café and job club in Barking and Dagenham.
The Marksgate Estate, where the project has been set up, is one of the most deprived areas in the borough with a high number of young people who are not in education or training.
Ciaran Porter from L&Q said: “It is hoped that the new space will be a hub where young people can get information and advice about a wide range of education and training opportunities in the area.
“In the past the area has suffered from a perception of high anti-social behaviour so the youth café will also provide a place for young people to hang out without fear of adding to this perception.”
The project has funding for six months from a variety of partners and hopes to help 60 people to either find jobs or enter into education or training during that time.
