Westpoint Apartments, Haringey

London & Quadrant Housing Trust and Tower Homes have unveiled a truly striking landmark to kick-start a major regeneration project in north London.

The Westpoint Apartments development was designed by award-winning architects Jestico + Whiles and built by Countryside Properties as a signature building for the Haringey Heartlands redevelopment programme.

The £10 million scheme has 69 affordable one and two-bedroom apartments, including 32 for affordable rent, 15 for shared ownership and 22 for outright sale.
It is in a prime location at the junction of Turnpike Lane and Hornsey High Street, with excellent rail and bus links into central London.
To the north is Alexandra Palace and its surrounding parkland, to the west is vibrant Crouch End with its restaurants and bar, further east is Wood Green Shopping City while a short trip south takes you to Green Lanes and Finsbury Park, offering a diverse and multicultural mix of shops and restaurants.

On the site previously was a small block of council flats known as Goulding Court.
These were small and had reached the end of their economic life, so in October 2002 the London Borough of Haringey chose London & Quadrant (L&Q) and Tower Homes to redevelop the site.
Since then we have been working closely with our partners at the council, project manager EC Harris, architects Jestico & Whiles, builders Countryside Properties, the Housing Corporation and Devonshires solicitors to bring this exciting scheme to life.
Planning permission for the new scheme was given in November 2003, building work started in March 2004 and the homes are now ready for people to move in.

Mike Johnson, L&Q’s Director of Development for the North Thames Region, said: “This area of north London is set for a complete transformation over the coming years and will become an increasingly popular place to live..
“L&Q and Tower Homes have worked hard with our partners to bring this stylish yet affordable development to the area so that local people and key workers can enjoy the renaissance and are not priced out of the market.”

Crucial to the success of the project was the Housing Corporation, which invested more than £2.3 million in the scheme.
Housing Corporation Chairman Peter Dixon, who officially opened the scheme, said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to open Westpoint Apartments. This strikingly designed development stands at the gateway to Haringey Heartlands and shows the real impact that Housing Corporation funding can have in regenerating an area. This development shows what successful partnership working can achieve in transforming an area and providing good quality new homes for local people.”
